NOV 28th - PEACE

DEC 22 - STYLE WARS SCREENING

The ATL Bench will be hosting our first ever film screening on Dec 22. Of course we will be enjoying and learning from the first ever documentary covering HIP HOP CULTURE, STYLE WARS. This is one of the most classic documentaries of all time, no matter what your background or interests. Its a must see for all who appreciate Hip Hop and what it has brought to mankind in both popular culture and private lifestyle. If you are an ATL bboy, bgirl, mc, dj, or writer, this is an event not to be missed.

The film screening will start at 8pm SHARP. We suggest you arrive early in order to get the best seat. We will be bringing in additional couches and chairs for your viewing enjoyment. The film will be shown on a large screen with a professional sound system. As always, we will offer drinks, snacks and refreshments but you are also allowed to bring your own.

A brief discussion will follow the screening (in other words, bring your BLACKBOOKS). Official re-release special edition copies of the DVD will also be available for purchase.

Gotta Have Soul @ The Bench

First things first. Happy birthday, Ken Fresh! He was the one who threw the jam with his crew, ATL FunkLordz. It was held at the Atl Bench and, despite the wet weather, pulled in a good crowd. DJ Ethical was providing the beats, while Quic hosted and kept it hype on the mic.

Can't help but make a shoutout to my boys, Risen from the Ashes, who came full force to rep hard. That night, they also added one to their numbers, battling Fathom in as the newest. Everyone there has to give it up for him and his stamina, as he went two rounds against each member, then was set to battle everyone else in the building along with Ken Fresh (as a birthday beating, I s'pose). This was after he had already been calling out... essentially everyone there.

Not to add more to the RftA-praise, but DoeBoi Fresh of RftA took the win that night against Dark Knight (IllVille, Nashville TN). It was a dope battle to watch, for sure.

On a final note, forgive the limited photo-coverage. I slept... late. Very late... and finally dragged my butt outta bed to show up.

The Atlanta Bench is pleased to announce The $tatus Faction’s Georgia gallery debut - “Screen Fiends.”

Hand silk-screening on canvas, “Screen Fiends” explores themes of abstraction, humor, satire, geometry, politics, graffiti, self-promotion and destruction. Accompanying the exhibit will be an indoor installation, music, cocktails and exclusive T$F merchandise.

I met DMC in the place to be, and the place to be is with DMC!

I had the honorable pleasure of meeting world renowned HIP HOP icon DMC at the Arts, Beats, and Lyrics this past Friday night. It was a humbling experience discussing the state of HIP HOP in today's culture of overnight entertainers and wanna-be super stars.
I told him about the Atlanta Bench, Atlanta's ONLY "original elements" and "true-School" hip hop shop focused solely on BBOY, GRAFFITI, DJ, and MC cultures. DMC proceeded to tell me that he has driven by The Bench on Marietta Street and has "HONKED for HIP HOP".
Hopefully next time DMC drives by the shop he will stop in for a visit now that he knows what it is.

exerpt from Eye of The Cypher: Quic [Atlanta Funk Lordz, Zulu] threw the second Benchwarmers jam at the Atlanta Bench this Sunday, one year exactly from the first one. Despite the late start, multiple battles went down: redbull battle (cypher battle for a case of redbulls), toprock battle (for a redbull and shirt from the Atlanta Bench), and of course, the planned 1-on-1 for $100

REST IN PEACE IZ THE WIZ.

Graffiti Legend IZ THE WIZ past yesterday. He was 50 years old. All of us here at the Atlanta Bench send our respect to the friends, family, and fans of this graffiti Icon.

Iz was known for his prolific artwork on the NYC subway system throughout the 1970's and 1980's. He was one of the few NYC writers to hold the title of "ALL CITY KING" and will be forever memorialized in the graffiti documentary STYLE WARS.
